Something like normal

Second time in the pool today, felt way more like normal. We tried having me swim laps, but in a ten meter pool you can not get any momentum, as a consequence my legs drag. So Kristin was holding my feet to keep my legs up, and with that it was almost like normal. I will have to work on what will hold my feet up when I get back to the Wingham pool, and who knows what a paraplegic flip turn will look like. I guess I have some research to do.

  1. Hi Julie, I've been following your blog since the beginning, but this is the first time I've commented. I'm so happy you're getting back into the pool already. I shattered my leg 2 years ago. Water therapy wasn't offered for me, so I started doing it myself. What a difference it made for me! I hope it helps in your recovery.

As for something to hold your legs up, you might want to try out plain old water-wings. At least as a temporary fix, until you can find something a bit nicer to use. Just a thought!

  2. Hi Julie: I also have been following your blog since the beginning, and I find it amazing. I've seen swim-team people using ankle floats to work arms-only in the pool. This is a short length of noodle (about 12") fastened vertically behind the legs at the ankle with velcro straps/tape. Should be easy to find or make.
